Fireworks Safety
Always Follow Safety Rules
- Always light only one item at a time.
- Never throw or point fireworks at another person.
- Never carry fireworks in your pocket.
- Always have water handy (a hose or bucket) and/or fire extinguisher.
- Always have an adult present to supervise your fireworks fun.
- Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
- Keep fireworks at arms length while lighting them.
- Once fireworks are lit, stand clear of the area. If a firework does not ignite, first let it cool and then sweep it off to the side and douse with water.
- Always store your fireworks safely in a cool, dry place, preferably in a closed box, away from any source of accidental ignition.
- Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter them or combine them.
- Never relight a "dud" firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
- Use common sense. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter and the shooter should wear safety glasses.
- Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a "designated shooter".
- Do not ever use homemade fireworks of illegal explosives: They can kill you!
- When lighting sparklers, keep 6 feet distance between each other.
- Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type.
- Make sure children only have one sparkler at a time.
- Children should not wear loose clothing while handling sparklers.
- Never shoot (fire) fireworks from metal or glass containers.
- PETS can be frightened by loud noises and bright flashes. Keep your pets indoors while enjoying your fireworks.
